The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) ranked the county among the least populated, with a population of 390,000 people.

The county boss on Monday vowed to petition the results to have the exercise carried out afresh, lamenting that the data does not reflect on the real situation on the ground.

But the Senator has laughed off the concerns, saying that judging by the size of the county, its very likely that the findings are very actual and precise.

"Tharaka Nithi county is a small county, it has a few people. Just accept that you are few (Tharaka Nithi ni Kaunti ndogo, haina watu. Kubalini tu nyinyi ni wachache)," he said.

The senator made the remarks on Radio Maisha's Bunge La Maisha on Tuesday morning, where he also noted that politicians should not be in a hurry to contest the data.

He said that he has since reached out to KNBS Director Zachary Mwangi, who confirmed that the data that was handed to President Uhuru Kenyatta was only preliminary.

"I have spoken KNBS boss Mwangi and he has told me that these are just preliminary results. Stop disputing it (Mimi nimezungumza na mkubwa wa Knbs Mwangi na akaniambia hizi ni preliminary tu. Wacheni kupinga, hayo ni mambo yenu)," added senator Mwaura.
