Former Nyaribari Masaba MP Dr Hezron Manduku who also served as assistant minister for Foreign Affairs wore a Mitumba shirt for over 15 years.
In a previous interview with the Nairobian, Dr Manduku admitted that he bought the shirt in 2003, days after recapturing his seat in the coast.
By the time he did in interview in 2017, Dr Manduku told reporters that he was not ready to let go his favourite shirt, despite the race that several of his cloths had worn out.
“This shirt is still in good condition and I wear it regularly, at times on a weekly basis. In fact, it is one of my favourite shirts. I have worn it for close to 15 years now and I am not about to let go of it,” he told The Nairobian.
"I might keep it for the next couple of years. I bought new shirts years later, but most are worn out. But this one is still intact. I have not even changed the collar,” added Manduku.
The former MP, who was first elected in 1992, Mitumba shirts are of high quality and he was not ready to walk to shops to get new cloths.
According to Manduku, “The mtumba clothes are of high quality. Nowadays, I don’t walk into a shop to buy new clothes and shoes when I can get very durable ones in the streets. I don’t feel embarrassed at all to wear used, quality clothes. I like them.”
Dr Manduku died on Saturday night at Nairobi Hospital after battling with a disease for several years. He was born in 1940 and was among oldest politician in Kenya.
He was a surgeon by profession and studied in Soviet Union. In 1978, Manduku quit for private business where he established Hema Hospital.
