Kenya has continued to lag behind in terms of development because of runaway graft, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has said.

Speaking during a press conference at the Maendeleo Chap Chap offices in Nairobi, Mutua called upon various leaders to back the war against graft as President Uhuru Kenyatta seeks to leave behind a legacy.

The county boss faulted leaders who have been politicising the war against the vice,  adding that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti and Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji are doing their best in their quest to end the corruption in the country.

He called upon different leaders and Kenyans in general to join and support the anti-graft war.

The second term governor who has hinted at contesting for the presidency in 2022, said that leaders claiming that their communities are being targeted in the ongoing war against corruption are misguided.

“We want to warn those thinking that this fight is about a community or an individual to stop it because we all know that indeed corruption has become a big problem in this country,” said Mutua.

Mutua's remarks come at a time when leaders have been eliciting mixed reactions over the alleged loss of Sh21 billion in the dams scandal.
