A-35-year old man has been lynched for allegedly stealing chicken in Kangundo, Machakos County.
The unidentified man died after irate mob descended on him with all sorts of weapons at Kiliku market on Monday.
Confirming the incident, Kangundo police boss Benjamin Ong'ombe said the deceased's colleague escaped the locals' wrath with serious injuries.
The duo had been caught red handed stealing chicken at the market prompting the beatings.
"When police officers got information on the incident, they went to the scene but one of the men was seriously injured. He lost his life on the way while being taken to Kangundo Hospital for treatment," Ong'ombe said.
He condemned the incident stating that mob justice is not justice.
Ong'ombe urged residents to desist from taking the law into their own hands.
"Every person has a right to trial. Unless the court decided otherwise, every one is innocent," he said.
He urged youths to desist from engaging in social vices that may see them in jail or dead.
Ong'ombe said locals should find legal ways of earning income instead of engaging in crime.
He said the injured suspect has been locked up at Kangundo police station awaiting to be arraigned in court.
The body was moved to Kangundo Level 4 Hospital's mortuary.
