Coast region, traditionally, has voted for the opposition and specifically former prime minister Raila Odinga.
The ODM party clinched more elective seats during the 2007, 2013 and 2017 general elections in Coast than any other party implying the Raila-led party enjoys majority following.
However, 2022 may be different. ODM's dominance may be put on check as the ruling Jubilee Party plans to roll out plans that will ensure it captures more seats in the region in 2022.
ODM and Jubilee party will rock the boat together during the 2022 poll as they stump their authority to prove their popularity in the country. This summarily means that the two largest parties in Kenya (ODM and Jubilee), presently, will be the ones which produce majority of elected candidates in the region.
Although Ford Kenya, Wiper and Amani National Congress managed to scoop a few seats during the last election, their popularity is still deemed and the likelihood that they will produce more leaders than either ODM or Jubilee is minimal.
Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho who is the ODM deputy party leader will play an instrumental role in ensuring Jubilee does not erode ODM's dominance in the six counties of Mombasa, Taita Taveta, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu and Tana River.
Jubilee Party will be banking on leaders like Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya, Lunga Lunga MP Khatib Mwashetani as well as former Kilifi North MP Gideon Mungaro to stamp its authority in the six counties.
This argument, however, is made on the assumption that Coast region leaders will not leave their present parties to form their regional party as being pushed by some leaders.
