Machakos County Governor Dr Alfred Mutua on Saturday rolled out the red carpet and mounted a full guard of honor for his visiting counterparts Charity Ngilu (Kitui) and Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni).
The reception for the two governors was fashioned like those stages for visiting head of states as the two even inspected the guard of honor.
The brief ceremony was broadcasted live on governor Mutua’s Facebook page.
Ngilu and Kibwana were visiting the Machakos governor for their first cabinet meeting of the South Eastern Kenya Economic Bloc (SEKEB).
“Receiving @mamangilu and @governorkibwana for the first joint Machakos, Kitui and Makueni cabinets and SEKEB Agreement and approval meeting,” Governor Mutua tweeted.
The Ukambani governors are working together to actualize key development projects region under the economic bloc with focus on tackling commons issues facing their people.
In January, the three governors formed the People's Empowerment Movements (PEM) to fight poverty and generate wealth in the region.
The movement according to the Ukambani governors was also to galvanize sharing resources among the three counties.
The movement was also to champion unity and cohesion among residents and leaders in the three counties.
Governor Kibwana and Mutua are serving their final terms in office while Ngilu is serving her first term.
Mutua has since declared interest to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in the upcoming 2022 general election.
