A section of teachers in Eldoret town on Saturday set ablaze the Teachers Performance and Appraisal Development (TPAD) forms.
The teachers from Chepkoilel Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) branch said the move was meant to express their dissatisfaction with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) introducing the forms.
Led by the KNUT national acting 1st vice chairman Collins Oyuu and the branch Executive Secretary Sammy Bor, the teachers said they were trained to teach and not to be clerks.
"The TPAD forms have turned teachers into clerks and today teachers have decided that enough is enough. They are tired of filing these forms in cybers where they nowadays spent most of their time instead of teaching," said Oyuu during the Chepkoilel annual meeting in Eldoret.
He noted that the issue of filling TPAD forms was solely done by TSC without consulting KNUT noting that they will not allow teachers to fill in the forms.
“We want to practice what we were taught in class. TSC should withdraw the TPAD forms immediately. TPAD rest in peace,” Oyuu noted.
The KNUT official further said the exercise of burning TPAD forms will continue across the country until TSC gives in to their demands.
“We are told that TSC has reduced the pages to two but we want to tell them that we will not fill even a single one. We urge our members across the country not to attempt to fill in the forms,” insisted the KNUT acting national vice chair.
