Uasin Gishu deputy governor Daniel Chemno has hit out at a section of political leaders and farmers who have been linking Deputy President William Ruto to the maize scandal.
Chemno who spoke in Eldoret town on Friday said DP Ruto is also a farmer and has right to supply maize to the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB).
The sentiments were in apparent response to claims that a farm linked to the DP, Koilel farm was being investigated over the maize scam with reports indicating that the farm received at least Sh20 million for supplying maize to the NCPB.
“DP has a farm in Moiben and if he planted maize then he, as a farmer and any other Kenyan had a right to supply maize to the cereals board,” said the deputy county boss.
He, however, asked the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) and other government agencies investigating the maize scam to hasten its probe and name all the culprits to avoid the issue being politicized.
“We want EACC to name the cartels that benefited from supplying maize to NCPB so that those out to politicize this matter don’t have an excuse of dragging other people’s name into the scam,” said Chemno.
