Concerned with intelligence briefs from Migori, ODM party leader Raila Odinga convened an urgent meeting at his Karen residence last week, it has emerged.
In the meeting, an insider says, Raila summoned MPs from Migori and party leadership where they extensively discussed how to redeem dwindling fortunes of Ochillo Ayacko in key areas.
"He received reports that Ochillo was not doing well in key constituencies and that Eddy Oketch's campaigns were well organised.
"In the meeting, he dispatched his MPs and MCAs to the ground to campaign for the party. They also agreed that he visit in the final two days," said the source, who spoke in confidence.
In the meeting, he adds, Junet Mohammed was tasked to take charge since he's popular among outsiders while John Mbadi was asked to coordinate. Mark Nyamita of Uriri was asked to be incharge of overall strategy.
After the victory on Monday, Mr. Mohammed agreed that the competition staged by Mr. Oketch, a political novice, was worthy and at times brought confusion.
“When we realised that things were not very good in some places, we asked all our MPs from the country and neighboring counties to take charge of their respective constituencies,” said Junet.
Ochillo was declared winner having scored 85,000 votes while Oketch managed 60,000 votes in a region perceived to be Raila's stronghold.
On Thursday and Friday, Odinga personally pitched tent in Migori, a factor that might have salvaged a rather horrible outcome.
