Molo Sub-County Police Commander Isaac Odumbe who confirmed the incident said the body of Fredrick Kibugi was found dangling from the roof of his room in the evening.

Odumbe said that it was still unclear why the 14-year-old student at Elburgon DEB Secondary School committed suicide.

He said the boy’s body was discovered by his aunt with a rope tied around his neck adding that there was no suicide note found.

“There were no suicide notes at the scene that could help establish what may have pushed the teenager to kill himself,” said the police commander.

Teresiah Mugure, the boy’s aunt, said she has been living with him after his mother died in 2006 when he was in Class Four.

Mugure said the boy had gone to Kiambu County to see his father during the mid-term break and returned on Wednesday.

“I had arrived at my place of work and found the boy watching TV. I then asked him to light a jiko which he did. The boy informed me that he needed to rest in his room as he had a headache,” she said.

The aunt said she later went to check on him in his room but found he had closed the door from inside with the light on and got suspicious when she called him several times without a response.

Mugure was shocked to find Kibugi's body dangling from the roof, behind the door when she forced the door open.

Police commander Odumbe said investigations into the matter are ongoing as the body was later taken to Elburgon Sub-County Hospital mortuary.
