Opposition leader Raila Odinga is not known to keep allies for long, approaching each presidential election with a new or refurbished team.
This, however, seems to not be the case when it comes to his personal life and safety, with libraries indicating that Raila has kept a section of his security intact for a very long time.
Among his bodyguards, one stands out, an officer whose name, however, remains unknown to this writer but who is even present in Raila’s photos taken in 2007.
This was when he was political friends with Deputy President William Ruto and Toursim Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala, both of whom are now on the opposite side, comfortably serving in the sitting government.
His pentagon then also included Joe Nyaggah who raced him in the previous 2017 presidential race, but who failed to realize his bid to lead the nation in the capacity of its Commander in Chief.
Also in the team was Charity Ngilu who also served as the Cabinet Secretary for Water and Housing in Uhuru's administration before rejoining politics to win the Kitui gubernatorial seat in the concluded election.
The body guard, however, has remained close to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader.
