This happened on Friday in Nyanchogochi village, Bogusero ward in Kitutu Chache South, Kisii County.

Residents said Dede Onchari sold his piece of land before he fled from the village with his neighbour's daughter who was in class 7 at Rwora primary school.

"Onchari colluded with his father to sell a piece of land valued at Sh150,000. He later convinced his neighbour's daughter who refused to go to school, packed her clothes and left the village to an unknown destination," said Erick Orenge.

Orenge said efforts by the girl's aged parents to persuade her to stay at home did not bear fruits because the she threatened to commit suicide if she was stopped from leaving.

"Her parents are old and they could not do anything to let her stay at home. She said she would commit suicide if stopped from going with Onchari," he noted.

Bogusero assistant chief Simon Mbwayo said the man ishas been traced to Oyugis where he is said to have rented a house to live with the minor.

Mbwayo called on parents to stop selling land carelessly to use the money to buy chang'aa.

He said Onchari will be arrested and taken to court for having an illicit love affair with a minor.
