Poor traders operating in Suneka market in Bonchari, Kisii County have objected the increased bus fare.
The traders have demanded the bus fare be dropped to normal failure to which they will hold demos.
"PSVs are charging between Sh100-200 from Suneka to Kisii town from the previous Sh30 claiming that it is because of the introduction of Michuki rules."
"We can't afford to pay the huge money. PSVs should drop the fares since it is not our fault for them not to comply with traffic rules," said a trader Amos Obutu.
Jacinta Motari complained that the matatu operators are stealing from poor people indirectly by hiking fares.
"We are being robbed just because the government decided to re-introduce Michuki rules. It is high time those found hiking bus fares be apprehended and charged in court," she noted.
Walter Kimasu argued that he has not opened his cereal shop in Kisii town since Monday because the bus fare was hiked from Sh30 to Sh200.
"I have not been able to report to work due to hiked fares. I will only open it once the fare comes down because I can't afford to pay Sh200 to Kisii town," he said.
