The debate to remove Ruto from office is being pushed by Senate Minority Leader James Orengo, a close ally of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Orengo has cited grand corruption and insubordination as grounds to impeach Ruto through Parliament.

However, Kiyiapi has dismissed the move as uncalled for and accused proponents of the motion of intent to divert public attention from the renewed purge on corruption.

In a post on his official Twitter account on Friday, the  Restore and Build Kenya party leader said he was not defending Ruto against graft allegations but noted the call to impeach him when Kenyans were focused in ending corruption was "sideshows".

"I hold no brief for anyone, but diversionary talk of impeaching the Deputy President and daily rancorous politics are uncalled for. The singular existential issue facing Kenya today is corruption and theft of public resources, this is where national attention is needed. No sideshows!" he posted.

The debate to push the DP out of office has caused political temperatures to rise as Ruto's allies have engaged in a fierce war of words with those affiliated to Raila-led Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Orengo, however, has distanced his party leader from the impeachment debate saying the proposal was his personal opinion.
