Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior now wants Tourism Cabinet Secretary (CS) Najib Balala to resign over the death of eleven rhinos at Tsavo East Park.
Kilonzo says suspending senior Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) officials over the rhinos deaths is not enough and that Balala should quit office.
Speaking to journalists in Makueni town on Saturday, the senator accused CS Balala of handling the matter lightly.
"The death of eleven rhinos is unfortunate and a national shame that senior officials can neglect their duties resulting to such big loss," Kilonzo said.
Kilonzo said Balala should have taken responsibility and resigned once the deaths were reported.
He said suspending some of the KWS officials over the matter does not help.
The deaths of the rhinos at the Tsavao Park continues to elicit reactions from conservationists.
The rhinos are said to have died as a result of taking saline water after being trans-located to Tsavo East.
On Thursday, CS Balala suspended six top officials at KWS who he accused of neglecting their duties leading to the deaths.
