The woman who was reportedly 55-years-old was found dead some few metres from her home in Atoandrew Village, after missing on September 17.

The head was later found inside her handbag in a nearby stream, with the police now saying that they have one person in custody in relation to the murder.

Confirming the incident, Tigania East Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) boss Benson Omondi confirmed the suspect, Peter Muthinja, as the main suspect.

“The investigations are at advanced stage. So far we have arrested one Mr Murungi who will be arraigned in court tomorrow," he told the Daily Nation on Thursday.

According to son to the deceased James Kirima, his son and other villagers discovered the lifeless body, before it was confirmed to be that of his missing mother.

He added that they proceeded to report the matter to the police and moved the body to a morgue for preservation.

"We reported the matter at Muthara Police Station. The body is being preserved at Miathene Sub-County Hospital mortuary," he is quoted.

The family said that it has delayed the burial as the head of the deceased was still missing, and is suspecting their uncle whom they have been involved in a land tussle with.
