Collymore, who died after a long battle with cancer, will be given a befitting send-off in a private ceremony for the family and close friends.

Confirming the new development, Safaricom Board Chairman Nicholas Nganga said that funeral arrangements for the deceased are underway.

He also said that the memorial service of the deceased will be conducted later on in the course of the week.

“There will be a private interment process on Tuesday but later on in the week, hopefully, Thursday or Friday, there will a memorial service for all those who knew and cared for Bob,” he said during a press briefing on Monday.

Collymore died after receiving treatment from various health facilities within the country, and overseas including Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi.

Kenyans led by President Uhuru Kenyatta had eulogized him as a great leader who changed the lives of millions.

“It is with a deep sense of loss that I have received the sad news of the death of Safaricom CEO Robert (Bob) William Collymore this morning. In this moment of great sorrow, my thoughts and prayers go out to his family, relatives, friends and the staff of Safaricom,” Kenyatta said in a statement.
