Teachers are fighting for a 70 per cent pay rise as talks with Teachers Service Commission (TSC) continues in Naivasha.
The high cost of living among other factors is the motive behind their demand.
Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) led by Secretary-General Akelo Misori on Wednesday presented a proposal for 2021-2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement to TSC.
In the document quoted by Daily Nation, Kuppet is seeking to have chief principals and senior principals earning between Sh118,242 to Sh141,891 and Sh84,715 to Sh153,715 respectively.
The teachers union also want secondary teacher II and secondary teacher UT and primary special need education teacher falling under grade C2 currently earning Sh34,955 to earn Sh59,425 while those earning Sh43,694 to be added Sh20,566.
Also, Kuppet wants commuter allowance ranging between Sh8,500 and Sh 20,000, leave allowance currently between Sh10,000 and Sh6,000 for tutors to range between Sh43,694 and Sh141,891.
In addition, the union is also demanding hardship allowance currently between Sh10,900 and Sh38,100 to rise to a value between Sh15,350 and Sh 57,150.
Lectures also want overtime allowance between Sh500 and Sh1,300 per hour.
The union also seeks to see an increment in the reader's assistance allowance and also that of disabled teachers.
"Reader's/facilitation/aid allowance shall be increased at the rate of 30% of the current amount to Sh19,500 to blind teachers and teachers confined to wheelchairs by virtue of their disability," the document quoted by Daily Nation elaborates.
Kuppet secretary-general is optimistic about striking a deal after four days' talk
"We are determined to have fruitful negotiations for the benefits of all teachers," noted Misori.
