Kenyan social media users on Tuesday expressed mixed reactions after Moi University launched the first locally assembled laptops and desktop PCs.
The Kesses-based university partnered a Portuguese tech firm JP.IK in assembling the computers.
The launch comes at a time when Moi University is in the limelight over students' demonstration that led to the closure of its main campus.
Just a few days ago, netizens criticized the university for imposing fines on the students' for the destruction of property during the demonstration which took place on October 11, 2019.
A section of the netizens believed there were more urgent matters that needed to be addressed.
They argued that the university should have prioritized resuming academic activities for all students before focusing on the launch.
Only students in their first, fourth and fifth year of their studies reported back to school on Tuesday.
A number of the Kenyans on Twitter claimed that the university should have involved its students in assembling the laptops.
According to the netizens, this would have been a good opportunity for students from various departments in the university to boost their practical skills.
