Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa surrendered his Mercedes Benz as surety Thursday to allow for the release of Cyrus Jirongo who had been serving time behind bars over a debt.
Mr Jirongo was arrested over a debt he owes businessman Bryan Yongo.
The former MP had been required to raise a 5-million-shillings cash bail to be released.
His arrest came after issuance of a warrant of arrest that Yongo had applied for.
Yongo claims that Jirongo owes him twenty million shillings which he has refused to pay.
He wants the court to compel the former presidential candidate to pay him.
COTU secretary-general Francis Atwoli has claimed in the past that Jirongo owes him one hundred million shillings.
Had Wamalwa not surrendered his Mercedes Benz, Jirongo would have been taken to remand prison.
