The tears just flow even if those around us take advantage of the situation to make fun of us.

According to a poll by SurveyMonkey Audience, 92 per cent of the 665 people interviewed admitted to crying when watching powerful and emotive movies.

Although most people believe that crying is a sign of weakness, no one should be ashamed of shedding tears especially after watching a powerful film.

Crying is a way of expressing emotions and when it comes to movies, our empathy allows us to step into the shoes of the character. This is what leads to the overwhelming emotions and hence the shedding of tears. Those who cry while watching movies express understanding and open-mindedness increasing their compassion when interacting with other people.

Movies are made to impact on the emotions of people and they perfectly do this when we watch a movie with highly emotional scenes. The mind releases oxytocin that compels us into becoming more empathetic and selfless.

A study revealed that the majority of individuals who cry while watching movies possess strong emotional strength than those who don't and are more mentally strong.
