Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers in Uasin Gishu county have been cautioned against absconding their duties.
Governor Jackson Mandago has issued the warning saying those who will be found absconding duties will face the full force of the law.
"I am aware that some ECDE teachers report to work at 11.00 am and leave at 4.00 pm. I am directing Chief Officer for education to ensure that this is a thing of the past," Mandago told the press in Eldoret town on Tuesday.
“We don’t want a situation where we buy learning materials worth millions yet there are no teachers to teach our children. This must stop since we spend a lot of money paying their salaries. We want value for our money,” he added.
The vocal governor spoke after presiding over the flagging off of Sh23 million ECDE books that would be distributed to 603 ECD centres across the county.
During the exercise, Mandago noted that his administration is poised to ensure that children get a quality education.
“We want our children to be taken through ECDE courses that is conversant with other ECDE centres across the country. That is why we are investing a lot of money in the sector,” he said.
The governor also gave out Sh5 million consignments of sports equipment which includes nets, discuss, football and javelin equipment.
