Suspected supporters of Kanu chairman Gideon Moi on Monday gave Deputy President William Ruto hectic time in addressing a crowd that had gathered in Suna West.
At the stopover, Ruto threw a jibe to area MP, precipitating into heckling from a section of youths who were chanting pro-Moi slogans.
"Tell your MP (Hon. Peter Masara) to look for me because I have Sh 100 million for a technical college in your constituency," Ruto said.
And minutes later, the crowd could be seen holding cockerels, a symbol for independent party Kanu, that has for a long time been under the control of Moi family.
Some of them vowed to ensure Ruto loses badly should he face Moi in 2022 presidential race, that has already created divisions among Kenyans.
"Moi is better, we shall vote for him. You're not welcome here. You are not one of us," the crowd could be heard saying.
Generally, the trip to the rest of the region, the first for Ruto in Nyanza since October 2017, was peaceful and a mammoth crowd attended despite the region being a predominantly ODM zone.
Last week, Gideon Moi spent two days in Homa Bay where he pledged to work closely with Raila Odinga ahead of 2022 polls.
