The 25-year-old man finished his secondary education in 2014, but could not join university due to his low grades.

Njoroge says he accepted the outcome of the results and decided to work at his uncle’s hotel in Thika Town, using the time to think of which kind of business he could venture in.

"I worked as a serving master at my uncle’s hotel for four months, after which I was promoted and started handling his accounts. The opportunity came by after the person who was in charge left to start his own business,” said Njoroge.

Njoroge revealed that he used to earn Sh4,000 per month while working as a serving master, but his salary increased to Sh12,000 after receiving the promotion.

"After 13 months of working at the hotel, I had saved Sh65,000 as I had used the rest of my salary for my daily expenses,” said Njoroge.

As luck would have it, Njoroge won over three million in 2016 after placing a bet using some of the money he had saved up.

"It was on April 2016 when I decided to place a multi-bet of 19 games with total odds of 192.15 using Sh20,000. I was surprised when I received a congratulatory message from SportPesa informing me that I had won Sh3,843,000,” said Njoroge.

"I decided that I would build rental rooms and after I discussed the idea with my uncle, he gave me a quarter-acre piece of land near Kenyatta University, and we agreed that I would pay him later,” he added.

Njoroge now owns 20 rental rooms and is planning to build more, due to the high demand by students.

“I usually rent out each room for Sh3,500 per month and my total monthly earnings comes to Sh70,000. I use the money for my upkeep but I never fail to save at least Sh25,000 every month," said Njoroge.
