Senator Cleophas Malala fired salvos at Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i upon his release from a Kisumu Central Police Station cell Monday night.
Taking umbrage at his treatment during his detention, Senator Malala called the tough-talking CS a socialite with a penchant for arresting leaders so as to be seen to be working.
He accused Dr Matiang'i of playing PR with the security of Kenyans.
"I want to talk to Matiang'i that do not take the security of this country as a joke. You have become a socialite. You are playing a lot of PR with the security of this nation... Families are languishing in Matungu and you are playing cosmetic politics by arresting leaders. I want to tell Matiang'i, you are a socialite, you are incompetent and you do not deserve to be in that office, " the fiery senator said.
Marauding gangs have been blamed for the killings.
The police have made scores of arrests as an operation to pacify Matungu continue apace.
Malala was arrested on Friday and bundled into a police car to the Kisumu Central Police Station where he was held in police cells for two days before being released on Sunday.
