After the emergence of the extraordinary budget by the county governments, Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata has assured Kenyans that they will continue probing the 'malicious' allocations.
Speaking on Wednesday morning at Radio Citizen's Jambo Kenya show, the senator said governors have been put on red alert for funding national government functions using the county resources which came to the limelight during the summoning of Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu last week on Thursday.
He said that the Senate is on course to summon governors to appear before it with next week being the turn of Murang'a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria who is the vice-chair of Council of Governors, despite Governors appeal to have summons stopped for proper audit to be undertaken.
"Gavana wa Kiambu, Ferdinard Waititu amedokezwa sana lakini magavana wote watafika mbele ya kamiti ya maseneta kueleza ripoti ya bajeti. Gavana wa Muranga, Mwangi wa Iria atafika mbele ya kamiti Mei 17 na kufuatwa na gavana wa Kirinyaga," said the Murang'a Senator.
It loosely translates to in English: "Much emphasis has been directed towards Kiambu Governor but all governors will appear before the Senate with Murang'a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria expected on 17th May followed by Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru."
Kang'atafurther noted that there has been the misuse of public funds with some governors opting to put some areas in the dark as a result of the area not voting him/her.
He also reiterated that the Senate has no powers to investigate governors. Theirs, he said, is only oversight and they summon county bosses, from the reports they receive from the Auditor-General.
He, however, pointed out that once a governor is found culpable for misuse of public funds, he or she will be called to account through prosecution as deemed by law.
Currently, three governors are facing prosecution and conviction if found to have breached the law including Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong, Samburu Moses Lenolkulal among others.
