As the Swahili rightly put 'mgeni njoo mwenyeji apone' sports fans from the region have something to smile about since the KICOSCA games have brought back the iconic stadium back to life with freshly watered grass and a great stand for the fans.

The new look stadium will also come as a boost for local football club Shabana FC that was forced to play it home matches at the Kenyenya Greens stadium due to the ongoing renovation of the stadia which many complained had taken longtime.

Former Harambee Stars lethal striker and the current Kisii County football team head coach Henry Motego is also confident that his team will have a good run in this year’s KICOSCA games.

'We won the competition in 2016, and injuries to our best players prevented us from defending our title last year. Despite the setback, I feel that we have prepared well for this year’s edition. Our target is to reach at least to the quarterfinals,” Motego said.

“We’re still on with the preparations and I think by next week we should have completed drafting the final squad for next week. I have been with the team since 2015 and I know their strengths and weaknesses. I’ll select those that I think will do well in the competitions," he added.

More than 8,000 participants are expected to feature during the six edition of the KICOSCA where competitors will battle it out in 18 disciplines for major honors. Participants will include county government and assembly employees drawn from counties around the county.
