Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju has conceded that the decision by ODM leader Raila Odinga to work with President Uhuru Kenyatta saved his family.
Tuju, a one time ally of Raila come political enemy, lost his Rarieda seat in 2007 after opposing Raila's grip over Nyanza region.
At Migori where he represented President Uhuru during senator Ben Oluoch's funeral, Tuju said the handshake saved his mother from persistent attacks from ODM supporters.
"I am the chief beneficiary of the handshake. In fact, my mother can now go to market without being attacked by ODM supporters.
"Before that, they were living in danger and could not walk around. The situation has since changed to my advantage," he said amid laughter from the crowd.
In Nyanza, Tuju, a Cabinet Minister without portfolio, is among few politicians who backed Uhuru's reelection bid.
Also from the region, Defense CS Raychelle Omamo works closely with Uhuru since 2013 elections.
