Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura has blamed the recent internal wrangles witnessed among Jubilee Party members on the famous handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition chief Raila Odinga.
Mwaura took to social media where noted Uhuru and his deputy William Ruto were the unifying factors in Jubilee, but the March 9, 2018 handshake has slowly destroyed the UhuRuto camp.
This, he said, has led to the formation of two camps; Team 'Tangatanga' rallying behind DP Ruto and Team 'Kieleweke' which supports the handshake.
"Jubilee Party was a big tent with two poles, one called Uhuru and another Ruto. A camel came in the name of the handshake and tore the tent apart. Now we have Team Kieleweke and Team Tangatanga," said Mwaura in a Facebook post on Sunday.
Similar sentiments were echoed by Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri who also blamed the infighting witnessed in the ruling party on the handshake.
This comes after former Jubilee Vice Chair David Murathe threatened to block Ruto's 2022 presidential bid, a move that has irked MPs allied to the deputy president.
President Uhuru has in the past argued that the handshake was not about 2022 politics and was instead aimed at uniting Kenyans and finding a lasting solution to divisive politics in the country.
