President Uhuru Kenyatta's appointment of retired police boss, Joseph Boinnet has been criticized and termed as a waste of public resources and abuse of office.
According to US-based Kenyan law scholar Prof Makau Mutua, retired civil servants should not be given any state appointments.
He says that such a move will allow young Kenyans to hold such offices and better the country's leadership.
In a tweet, Mutua said it is a form of corruption to deny other Kenyans opportunities when select individuals are being recycled back to the system.
"Why can’t retired public servants like former IG Boinett just stay Retired? It’s corrupt and an abuse of public power to keep on re-appointing Expired officials to infinite posts. A waste of resources," read his tweet.
President Kenyatta surprised many when he appointed Boinnet as the Chief Administrative Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism.
Last year, Kenyans criticised Kenyatta's move of appointing a 95-year-old former Vice President Moody Awori to the Sports Board.
