Comedian Felix Odiwuor alias Jalang'o is a good proof of the rugs to riches narrative.
Now apparently living large and basking in fame as one of the nation’s top comedians, and best paid popular radio personalities, life was not the same back in Homa bay during his young days.
Born to a poor family and raised in Homa bay Town, Jalang'o attended Homa bay Lake Primary School where he went barefoot due to financial constraints, this he did for 8 good years.
But he remained focused despite all the challenges, proving it when he scored a whopping 427 marks in his final exams, landing him a slot at the Maseno School in Kisumu.
Regarding the situation at home, admitting him at the school and getting all the requirements called for a fundraiser, which would later prove useless when himself and his father landed at Maseno.
A week later the two arrived at Maseno, 200 kilometers away, but were turned back with the school claiming to have already allocated his slot to another student.
This left Jalash who was clad in full school uniform and with a school box stranded, forcing father and son to head back home, lost in thoughts on the next move.
He would later join Bar Kanyango Secondary in Siaya, where he used his Maseno uniform, but was again moved to Nyang’oma school in Bondo when fees became a problem.
To facilitate his schooling, his elder brother George who was schooling at Nyang’oma had to drop out.
