The suggestion was made by Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji, who said it will go a long way in way in helping with investigations.

In a statement released on Thursday, the DPP said this way, investigators will have ready evidence to work with while pursuing cases to do with road offenses.

“It will be in my view, difficult, to gather enough evidence to demonstrate that an excess passenger refused to comply with the order of a police officer or declined a request by the owner, conductor and/or driver not to enter the PSV. In most cases, it will be the word of the police officer against that of the passenger,” he said.

In a tweet Friday, the senator also proposed the introduction of the same (cameras) in vehicles, as well as a law barring police officers from getting into private cars on the roads.

He also said there is need for an amendment to the Traffic Act, to confine drivers to their vehicles when stopped at checkpoints, meaning that they will remain inside their cars.

"The DPP wants traffic police fitted with body-cams in addition to that, I will propose an amendment to the Traffic Act to require all Vehicles to be fitted with cameras, drivers to remain in their cars at all times during checkpoints! Police prohibited from entering private cars," he tweeted.
