Another battle is looming in Jubilee party as Deputy President William Ruto now wants a take over that would see President Uhuru Kenyatta's allies kicked out.

On Monday, Jubilee Vice Chairman David Murathe, a close ally of Uhuru, fired at Jubilee parliament leaders, most of whom allied to Ruto, of sabotaging the president's agenda.

“We cannot have a situation where our party leadership in Parliament is opposing the government. When you start threatening that you will go against the government, what you are doing is actually casting aspersions on the judgment of the President,” Mr Murathe said at Kanjai PCEA church.

But in a quick rejoinder, Ruto's team is now pushing for fresh polls in Jubilee leadership, a move that could see Murathe and Secretary General Raphael Tuju losing their seats.

Jubilee party, despite promising to hold elections, has however been operating with an interim team.

Leaders allied to Ruto bashed Mr. Murathe as the debate of fresh elections took center stage.

“The Jubilee Party should hold elections as soon as possible. We owe it to our party members,” Aaron Cheruiyot said.

Another ally to the DP John Walukhe added: "“I am the Bungoma county Jubilee Party chairman, yet like many other grassroots officials I don’t know what is happening. It is total confusion and we are now lost. These elections could have been done like yesterday."

And Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, a chief campaigner to the DP, was even clearer on the matter.

In his Facebook page, Kuria seems to be pushing for election of politicians in Jubilee party positions.

Under the current set up, those in big positions are either former politicians of technocrats.

“Time has come for Jubilee Party to open up space for political participation. Party elections are long overdue,” he said.

Currently, Ruto's allies Kipchumba Murkomen, Adan Duale and Benjamin Washiali control parliament.

Should the scheme sail through, the DP would have an opportunity to rally for his allies in as he seeks to take control of Jubilee party ahead of 2022 polls.
