Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi is at the peak of his illustrious political career spanning over one decade.
Today, he is the most powerful man in the County. To others, he is the Mijikenda political kingpin. Kingi has surpassed his own expectations when he made a huge plunge into politics in 2007.
Going into 2022 election, the former Magarini MP has declared his intention to vie for Presidency. If he plays his cards well, he might just become the first President of Kenya from the Coast region.
Though Kingi developed his political muscle under ODM leader Raila Odinga, Kilifi Senator Stewart Mwachiru Madzayo has given him an extra edge in the murky world of politics.
Since the duo became close political allies in the run to the 2013 election, Madzayo, a former Labour Court judge has operated in the shadows of the firebrand Kingi. However, he remains a key cog in the governor’s political life.
It was during one of their political rallies in the county in 2012 that Kingi’s bodyguard lost his life in the hands of the attackers who were after his life. From then, the two bright sons of Kilifi have never looked behind.
After their convincing wins in 2013, the duo repeated the same feat in 2017 even as their popularity soared.
Though he is a low-profile guy who has accepted the reality that Kingi is not his political equal, Madzayo is a heavyweight in his own rights with the India-trained lawyer confirming that he cannot just be written off in Kilifi’s political equation.
