The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) on Monday permanently revoked the driving licence of the truck driver involved in the fatal accident that occurred last week at Chepsir in Nakuru.
In a letter sent to the press and seen by Hivisasa, the NTSA director general Francis Meja said the driver, who goes by the name Abdulle Ali Mohamed, had his licence revoked permanently.
This was after considerations from the accident involving a truck, KBH 267J/ZF 8069, belonging to Multi Energy Limited.
"The Authority has permanently revoked the driving license of the driver of the trailer Mr Abdulle Ali Mohamed of ID Number 21932102," reads a statement sent to newsrooms on Monday.
According to the director general, the permanent revocation decision was made due to the fact that the driver is a danger to all road users and therefore can not be allowed to drive in Kenya.
The accident which claimed 9 lives leaving many others injured occurred when the said trailer hit a 14-seater matatu belonging to South Rift Sacco that was heading to Kericho from Kisumu.
NTSA says preliminary reports indicate the crash occurred when the truck driver was descending in the climbing lane towards oncoming traffic without due care causing a head-on collision with the PSV registration number KCN 236X belonging to South Rift Sacco.
The Authority cautioned motorist that similar action will be taken against drivers who don't follow traffic rules.
"The Authority also cautions motorists that similar action shall be taken against drivers who disregard traffic rules."
