Jonathan reportedly died in Nakuru on Friday, though the cause of his death is yet to be communicated by the ex-Head of State's family.

ODM wished Moi strength at this tough time and termed Jonathan's death as a great loss to the family and the nation.

"The ODM family joins the rest of the nation in condoling with Retired President Daniel Arap Moi and family following the death of his son Jonathan Toroitich Moi. We pray to God to give Mzee Moi and family strength and fortitude to bear this big loss," the party wrote on its Twitter handle early Saturday.

Jonathan, despite hailing from a political family led a largely quiet life as compared to his brothers Gideon and Raymond who are Baringo Senator and Rongai MP respectively.

Moi retired from power after his loss to former President Mwai Kibaki in the 2002 elections and has been living a silent life at his Kabarak home in Nakuru County.

He is the second and longest serving Head of State, after ruling for 24 years.
