A popular news anchor has found herself on the receiving end after she attacked Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga.
Citizen TV presenter Yvonne Okwara on Thursday night accused Raila of what she termed as political dishonesty for joining hands with President Uhuru Kenyatta in seeking more loans from China for the extension of Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).
Speaking during News Gang segment, the journalist said it was ironical for the opposition leader to accompany Uhuru to negotiate for extra loans when in the past he had accused Jubilee administration of over-borrowing.
"In 2016 Raila was extremely critical of the country's debt situation. He had a list of five demands for the president regarding the debt situation. He accused the government of over-borrowing, overspending and over-stealing. He further told the President to wake up and smell the coffee that the country was on a downward trend," she recalled.
Okwara said the ODM leader should not hide behind his handshake with the head of state but should come out to explain to Kenyans why he changed his position.
"He is a leader and must give comprehensive explanation considering he is now seeking more money in our name, the money we will all pay," said the outspoken news anchor.
The remarks, however, attracted the wrath of an ODM MP, Samuel Atandi, who accused Okwara of being a 'loud-mouth'.
"Some newsreaders have developed loud-mouths and know-it-all attitude. Raila Odinga is not on anyone's payroll," the Alego Usonga legislator tweeted on Friday.
