The county boss has been in solitary cell since his arrest late last week, in relation to the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.

Police have since defended the move, saying that the same was to secure his safety while in the hands of the police, reports the Standard.

Obado was arrested on Friday, after a grilling session with detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) at their headquarters in Nairobi.

Gigiri OCPD Richard Mwangi has since confirmed that he remains safe inside the police cells, but has been receiving a common man's treatment, regardless of his VIP status.

"The Governor is well, he only says that life in police cells is hard. All people here are equal so we have no special treatment for him," he said on Saturday.

On Sunday, his wife Helen and two children were allowed to see him under the watchful eyes of detectives, following a police directive that only immediate relatives and lawyers be allowed to see him.

The Governor is set to be arraigned on Monday, where he is expected to face charges revolving around murder, and is being represented by Lawyer Cliff Ombeta.

He has, however, since distanced himself from the incident which happened 3 weeks ago.

"I want to make it clear that I had nothing and absolutely nothing to do with the cruel murder of Sharon," he said in an earlier press conference.

Sharon was seven months pregnant at the time of her death.
