Hundreds of widows from Taita Sub-county had an opportunity to share Christmas with Governor Granton Samboja at his Mwakishimba residence.
The women pooled from all the four wards praised the generosity of the governor saying the community should emulate a lot from him.
"Some of us have been chased away by our families after our husbands passed away. We're not wanted in the family as the society discriminates against widows. We're happy to share this moment with you governor," said one of the widows who sought anonymity.
Governor Samboja said he would spend this Christmas season with widows from all the Sub-counties.
"I hold widows close to my heart for I understand their suffering. Majority of them are facing a lot of rejection from their families and the society," said the county boss on Tuesday.
He said he would try his level best to assist them lead a better life and encouraged them to form a group to empower individual members.
Samboja offered to build a house and a start up capital to one widow who was recently kicked out of her matrimonial home weeks after her husband succumbed to a grisly road accident.
He will also pay school fees for two girls who performed well during last years KCPE examinations.
He urged school and college-going children to not only apply for County bursary but also County education loan saying majority of those complaining that they have missed the loan have never applied for consideration.
"Let a maximum number of students apply for the loan even if some won't be considered immediately they can benefit in the next cycle," said Samboja.
According to the Treasurer of Taita Taveta County Widows Association Hope Wawuda, there are 4,000 registered members and plans are underway to recruit more members.
