According to Njomo, a majority of the party members are yet to understand the terms and conditions of the handshake.

He said that while the handshake's main agenda was to unite the country, things seem different based on the political statements made by Raila and his allies.

“If you ask me I will tell you that the March 9 handshake could be the main cause of the alleged rifts in our party,” he told journalists at Parliament Buildings on Wednesday.

Njomo said that while they support President Kenyatta's development agenda, the fact that Raila is now close to the government is worrying Jubilee members.

The MP said that Raila's remarks that Deputy President William Ruto should stop campaigns since he is not guaranteed of the presidency in 2022 are a sign that he is up to something.

Njomo asked President Kenyatta to make public the terms of engagement with Raila in a bid to save the party.

He also asked the President and his deputy to take charge of the party by calling members to order.

“We believe in Uhuru and DP Ruto’s leadership and we would want them to remain intact ahead of 2022,” he added.

Claims of rifts in the Jubilee Party continue to emerge even as the party plans for a retreat to iron out the differences among a section of members.
