The restructuring plan at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) has not augured well with Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior. The vocal senator is against Kenya Airways’ plan to manage operations at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
The senator said that the plan of restricting the airport is destined to fail if the airline is given the mandate to manage its affairs.
The statement of the senator comes after The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) reveals plans to hold talks with KQ over the same.
Although there are plans to boost the revenues generated from the facility, Kilonzo feels KQ lacks the goodwill to transform the place.
If the agreement is reached, KQ will not only be in charge of the staff but also operations at the airport. There are plans to conduct an assessment on the viability of the project before determination of the next move to be undertaken.
Mutula raised concern over increased number of job losers at KAA and wants an elaborate explanation over the same before the talks are held.
“The proposal by KQ to manage JKIA needs to be interrogated. Why are KAA staff losing jobs in the process? Same thing happened when they fell into debt .They retrenched their staff and ended up outsourcing others. While at it , who exactly owns KQ?” he said.
