A section of Western leaders is rooting for the creation of a powerful Prime Minister post.
In a statement read by Vihiga Governor Wilber Otichilo at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega, the leaders recommended that the post should be made part of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report.
The leaders said that the winner takes it all system of governance is not good for the progress of this nation in different fields. The leaders argued that the constitution should be amended such that it includes the PM's position as well as two deputies.
The leaders also said that the powers of the President and those of the Prime Minister must be distinguished to avoid confusion in future.
"We want an expanded executive with powerful Prime Minister and two deputies," said Otichilo.
The leaders from the region also noted that it is important for the BBI task force to ensure that the report has a legal framework. They argued that some leaders are likely to tamper with the recommendations of the report if the same is not made clear right from the word go.
“BBI must create a legal framework to ensure the process of electing leaders is not tampered with,” read the resolution.
The leaders also argued that the Ethics and Anticorruption Commission (EACC)
The meeting was attended by various leaders including ODM leader Raila Amolo Odinga, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula among others.
