The event will be held on Thursday next week, with Presidents of neighbouring countries expected to attend.

The Kisumu Port is undergoing rehabilitation at a cost of Sh3 billion ahead of the official launch.

During one of his inspection tours at the port recently, African Union High Representative For infrastructure Development Raila Odinga indicated that about five to six Presidents of East African countries are expected to attend the launch.

According to reports, Presidents expected in Kisumu are Uganda’s Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Tanzania’s John Pombe Magufuli, Paul Kagame of Rwanda, Salvar Kiir of South Sudan and Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

However, according to Kisumu County Government Spokesperson Alloys Ager, it is still too early to confirm the attendance of the leaders.

“We are expecting various leaders from the East African region in Kisumu next week for the launch of the Kisumu Port. However, the information about the Presidents expected to grace the occasion will come from State House,” said Ager in an interview on Saturday morning.

The port is expected to provide up to 200 direct job opportunities after the launch.
