Veteran politician Chirau Ali Mwakwere has been elected the new Wiper party chairman.
On Sunday, the party's National Executive Council held a meeting at the Kenya School of Law in Karen, Nairobi where Mwakwere was elected the new chairman.
Mwakwere now fills the position that was left vacant after Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana resigned in January.
During the meeting, Anne Kanyi was elected the party's vice-chairperson.
“The election of the Chairman and Vice-Chair will be ratified at a National Delegates Conference whose date will be announced later,” Wiper said as quoted by Citizen.
The veteran politician joined the Wiper party in 2017 after ditching the Jubilee Party under the leadership of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.
Mwakwere contested for Kwale County governorship in the last election on a Wiper party ticket but lost to incumbent Salim Mvurya of the Jubilee party.
