The Commander of the 6th Brigade, Brigadier William Shume recently graced the inaugural Unit Day for 17th Battalion Kenya Rifles (17 KR) at Nyali Barracks, Mombasa.
The Desert Rangers was formed as a result of the then Kenya Army Commander’s medium term modernization programme and is the senior most Unit of 6th Brigade.
The Unit is expected to receive its Presidential Colour on Jamhuri Day 2018 (December 12, 2018). The ceremony will be officially presided over by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, Uhuru Kenyatta.
The Unit held the event as a way to enhance its espirit de corps. The event saw current and former 6th Brigade Officers and Service Personnel come together to mark the long and great journey the Unit has gone through since its inception 9 years ago.
The event was characterized with sharing of fond memories by former Commanding Officers of the unit and Sergeant Majors who have overseen the transition of the Unit into now a fully established, dependable and capable Unit like the rest in Kenya Army.
After the main event, there was a tree planting exercise that was led by the Chief Guest alongside other invited guests followed by a luncheon.
