For a long while now, there have been talks of DP William Ruto's Weston Hotel in Nairobi being demolished following the government's efforts to bring down all buildings erected at illegal sites in the city.

1. Friends and enemies

It will mean that Ruto's friends are now turning against him.

Someone could say that it is the law, but even the infallible law enforcers have always had that soft spot for friends and relatives. Sonko's recent call to Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu will teach you that.

2. Open Ruto's book to the public

The demolition will also imply that the feared path into Ruto's empire has now been opened and the public can revisit how he got his wealth. Although the DP has shown he came from humble backgrounds and climbed the ladder of social mobility slowly, there are those who say that he used unorthodox means to expand his empire. This conflicting truth will be subject to public scrutiny once the demolition is done.

3. Show real magnitude of commitment by authorities

Should the authorities manage to bring down Weston Hotel, it will be proof enough to the masses that the government is now committed to ending the culture of impunity.

Putting in mind the power at Ruto's disposal, a demolition of the hotel will sound the bells that it is not just the small that are targetted in the war against impunity; even the most powerful are. What this will then do is that it will increase the people's trust and support for the demolitions.
