Mr Kipkorir welcomed the development in a tweet on Thursday, saying that she would bring classy elegance to her new assignment.

Jane Marriott replaces Nick Haley as the United Kingdom's envoy to Kenya.

He appeared to suggest that given Marriott's anti-terrorism background, Kenya would benefit in its war against Al-Shabaab.

"Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has appointed Jane Marriott, Director Of UK International Anti-Terrorism Dep’t to replace my friend Nic Hailey.

"I bid farewell to my friend. As an Anglophile, I welcome Ms. Marriott who’ll bring classy elegance. I guess al Shabaab are panicking now," Lawyer Donald Kipkorir wrote.

Jane Marriott steps into her new assignment at a time of relative political stability in Kenya.

Her predecessor Nick Haley had to contend with political tensions in the country stoked by a disputed presidential election.

The opposition accused Mr Haley of not doing enough to prod the Jubilee administration to guarantee free and fair elections.

Ms Marriott's experience in Anti-Terrorism is expected to add new impetus to the war against terrorism.

Kenya is engaged in an ongoing military effort against Al-Shabaab in Somalia.
