Deputy President William Ruto has responded to claims that he may have been involved in swindling Sh21 billion meant for construction of Kimwarer and Aror dams in Elgeyo-Marakwet County which has caused political storm in the country.
On Wednesday, ODM leader Raila Odinga questioned Ruto's interest in the scandal, insisting that he could have been involved using his proxies thus his bitterness.
But at Kirinyaga on Thursday, Dr Ruto blamed Mr Odinga for allegedly thriving in conspiracy theories, adding that the former Prime Minister is out to taint his name for political gains.
"The question I am being asked is like a hyena asking a herdsman what is the interest in your herd. In the last elections you accused your competitor of stealing Eurobond and now you are accusing your future competitor of stealing from Dams. Take your evidence to DCI and EACC"
He added: "You (Raila) are the most ugly face of impunity. You have no legitimacy to lecture anyone."
The two protagonists have been taking on each other lately over the ongoing fight against corruption which has literally reignited 2022 elections debate that President Uhuru Kenyatta is not keen at.
Over the weekend, a section of MPs allied to Ruto, led by Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi, accused Mr Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta of allegedly using DCI George Kinoti to fight Ruto in the pretext of corruption.
Mr Kinoti has summoned 107 company directors and has already grilled Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich over the payments.
