An increased number of youths in Kisii County are committing suicide due to the adoption of Western culture by youths, it has emerged.
Gusii Governance Watch, a Human Right activists group secretary Rachael Otundo claimed that young people are ending their lives prematurely since the Gusii culture has faded.
"Young people are never following the community culture like our forefathers used to do for instance there were teaching children more especially boys used to be taught when circumcised. Such training is not available these days," she stated.
She blamed parents for allowing young children to copy the Western culture.
"Parents must step up efforts to teach their kids to live within the Kisii traditions for the sake of curbing unnecessary deaths," she added.
Ms. Otundo challenged members of the clergy to also be at the forefront praying for residents to drive away evil spirits.
"Pastors should pray for young people to drive away bad thoughts which may tempt them to commit suicide. Youths, when faced with challenges, should seek guidance and counselling from elders, local pastors but, not committing suicide," said Ms. Otundo.
