Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Shollei now says Deputy President (DP) William Ruto is the only politician fit to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in the forthcoming 2022 general elections.
Shollei claims that DP Ruto will advance the Jubilee government development agenda if he takes over from President Kenyatta who is serving his last term in office.
Speaking in an interview with Massawe Japanni on Radio Jamabo on Thursday, Shollei described Ruto as a ‘unifying’ factor, saying he has the interests of the country at heart.
“If you ask me DP Ruto is the only politician who is able to continue the Jubilee government agenda in 2022 when president Uhuru reties,” she said.
Shollei exuded confidence that Kenyans will rally behind DP Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid.
The Uasin Gishu Women Rep at the same time hit out at DP Ruto’s critics, saying they are envious of his development track record.
She said that it is malicious for some politicians to link the DP to graft scandals.
“We know the tricks they (critics) are using to block DP Ruto’s 2022 bid but we are them telling that they will not succeed,” she said.
Shollei further criticised Siaya Senator James Orengo’s motion to impeach DP Ruto.
She said that the motion is politically instigated and aimed at scuttling the DP’s 2022 bid, adding that Orengo does not have the numbers to push for Ruto’s removal.
Orengo’s plot to initiate Ruto’s impeachment continues to elicit reactions across the political divide.
A section of Jubilee politicians allege that opposition leader Raila Odinga is behind the motion.
Led by Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, the politicians allege that Raila is eyeing Ruto’s seat.
A section of Raila's close allies has distanced the opposition leader from the alleged plot to impeach Ruto.
Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga says the motion by Orengo is not sponsored by Raila or ODM.
